Managing FTP Accounts in cPanel

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to transfer files between your computer and your One&OnlyHost server. Using cPanel, you can create FTP accounts so that specific users can upload, download, or manage files within a set directory on your hosting account.

WarningWarning: Anyone with valid FTP credentials can modify files in the assigned directory and its subdirectories. Only create FTP accounts for users you trust, and restrict access to specific folders whenever possible.

Creating an FTP Account

  1. Log in to cPanel .
    InfoNote: If you do not know how to log in to your cPanel account, please see this article .

  2. In the Files section, click FTP Accounts .

  3. Under Add FTP Account , enter:

    • Log In: The username for the FTP account.

    • Domain: Choose the domain associated with the account.

      Full usernames follow the format user@example.com.

    • Password: Enter a strong password (or click Password Generator ).

    • Directory:Set the folder this FTP account can access.

      WarningWarning: If you remove the automatically generated directory name and leave the Directory text box blank, then the user will be able to add, edit, and delete all files on your account. We strongly advise you to limit an FTP account to a subdirectory on your account.

    • Quota: Specify the maximum storage in MB, or choose Unlimited .

  4. Click Create FTP Account .

Changing an FTP Account Password

  1. Log in to cPanel .

  2. Go to FTP Accounts .

  3. Find the account you want to update and click Change Password .

  4. Enter and confirm the new password, or use the Password Generator .

  5. Click Change Password .

Deleting an FTP Account

  1. Log in to cPanel .

  2. Go to FTP Accounts .

  3. Find the account to remove and click Delete .

  4. Choose:

    • Delete Account (keeps files)

    • Delete Account and Files (removes the account and all files in its assigned directory)
