Migrating an Account from Another Web Host

Migrating an Account from Another Web Host

You can migrate data from another web hosting provider to your One&OnlyHost account. This article explains how to migrate your data using either a manual migration or by requesting assistance from our Migrations team.

When migrating from another hosting provider, we recommend leaving at least 7 days of overlap between opening your One&OnlyHost account and closing your previous account. This helps to minimize downtime during migration.

Migrations are processed in the order received. We aim to complete them as quickly as possible, but speed can be affected by factors such as your current host's network speed, the number of sites being migrated, and the complexity of the migration. Our Migrations team will keep you informed throughout the process.

cPanel Migration

If your current hosting provider uses cPanel, we can transfer your existing site via an account migration. Account transfers are available for:

  • Shared hosting accounts

  • Reseller hosting accounts

  • Managed WordPress hosting accounts

  • Managed VPS accounts

  • Managed Dedicated Server accounts

InfoNote: WordPress sites are included when migrating to Managed WordPress hosting accounts. They will appear automatically in cPanel's WP Toolkit for easy management.
Alert

Important: Do not cancel your old hosting account until you have updated your DNS settings and fully tested your new One&OnlyHost account to ensure the migration is successful.

To request a cPanel migration:

  1. If you haven't already, sign up for your One&OnlyHost account.
AlertImportant: Use an e-mail address that is not associated with the domain you are migrating to avoid missing important messages during the process.

  2. Log in to the Hosting Panel.

  3. Click Open Ticket .

  4. In your request, provide:

    • Destination product or service for the migration

    • The domain(s) to be migrated

    • Details of any SSL certificates

    • Access details for your current account (cPanel, FTP, or SSH)

    • Any special instructions or additional information about your account

  5. Our Migrations team will notify you when the transfer is complete.

  6. Test your website on the One&OnlyHost server before changing your domain's name server settings. For instructions on testing without changing DNS, see this article on using a custom hosts file.

  7. Update your domain's name server settings to One&OnlyHost name servers.

  8. Wait up to 24 hours for DNS propagation to complete.

  9. Once confirmed as working correctly, cancel your account with your previous hosting provider.

Manual Migration

If your current hosting provider does not support cPanel, you can migrate your data manually.

  1. Sign up for your One&OnlyHost account.

AlertImportant: Use an e-mail address not tied to the domain you are migrating.

  2. Transfer your website files, e-mail accounts, and databases to your new account:

    • Place your website files in the public_htmldirectory. For help using FTP, see this article.
