Migrating E-mail from Another Host to One&OnlyHost

Migrating E-mail from Another Host to One&OnlyHost

There are several ways to migrate e-mail accounts from another web hosting provider to your One&OnlyHost account. The method you choose depends on the type of account you had with your previous hosting provider:

  • cPanel accounts: If your old hosting account used cPanel, we can migrate the entire cPanel account (including e-mail accounts) as long as your One&OnlyHost account is empty.

  • Non-cPanel accounts: If your old hosting account did not use cPanel, the e-mail data must be migrated manually.

E-mail Migration for cPanel Accounts

If your old hosting account included cPanel and your One&OnlyHost account is empty, we can migrate the entire cPanel account, including all of your e-mail accounts.

Note: For detailed instructions on how to start the cPanel migration process using the Hosting Panel, please see this article.

Manual E-mail Migration for Non-cPanel Accounts

If your old hosting account did not use cPanel, you must migrate the e-mail data manually.

First, manually create e-mail accounts on your One&OnlyHost server that match the accounts you want to migrate:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
InfoNote: If you do not know how to log in to your cPanel account, please see this article.

  2. Open the Email Accounts tool:

    • If you are using the Jupiter theme, on the Tools page, in the Email section, click Email Accounts.
cPanel - Email - Email Accounts icon

    • If you are using the Paper Lantern theme, in the EMAIL section of the cPanel home page, click Email Accounts.
cPanel - Email - Email Accounts icon

  3. Create a new account for each e-mail address you want to migrate. For more details, see the article on creating e-mail accounts in cPanel.

Once the accounts are created, you can migrate the e-mail data. The process below demonstrates how to do this using Mozilla Thunderbird (steps are similar for Outlook and Mac Mail):

  1. Start Mozilla Thunderbird.

  2. If you have not already done so, set up a Thunderbird account for the e-mail account on the old server.
AlertImportant: When configuring the account, use the server hostname for the incoming and outgoing mail servers (not your domain name). This ensures Thunderbird connects to the correct server. Contact your old hosting provider if you do not know the server name.

  3. Set up a Thunderbird account for the e-mail account on the new One&OnlyHost server.
AlertImportant: When configuring the account, use the server hostname (for example, sg1-tr103.supercp.com) for the incoming and outgoing mail servers.

  4. Click the Inbox for the old account.

  5. From the Edit menu, click SelectAll to select all messages.

  6. From the Message menu, click Copy To, select the new One&OnlyHost account, and then click Inbox.

InfoNote: The time required to copy messages depends on the number of messages in the inbox.

  1. Click the Inbox for the new account to confirm all messages have copied.

IdeaTip: To migrate messages in other folders, create the same folder on the new account and copy the messages from the old account using the same process.
